This is great news for customers who have physical infrastructure supporting those Oracle workloads because they thought Oracle did not support their workloads running on vSphere. As customers virtualize and move workloads to the cloud they can expect Oracle to fully support them.

If you ask me they do already (just read page 4 of this document), and I've seen plenty of times they have, but it's always been grey. Oracle people would say they didn't, VMware people would say they did, the customer because of the tremendous value of leveraging virtualization would take the leap and just tell Oracle they "will support it", or something they just couldn't take the perceived risk.

So the great debate ends, and the customer wins!

Oracle has publicly stated that they will now support vSphere on Oracle. The details are yet unknown, but none-the-less this frees up customers to take advantage of vSphere based cloud solutions.
